ABOUT US
Oribib Firewood started in 2021 as something on the side, an attempt to make our farm more productive after we'd already tried a lucerne venture for feed. A local farm manager mentioned that a hunting guest had spotted an opportunity in firewood. That was enough to start.
What began as a small side project turned into something bigger once we looked at the market honestly. Elsewhere, firewood is a real category, with recognisable brands, clear positioning, real competition. In Namibia, it wasn't. Mostly cattle farmers cutting opportunistically when times were hard. We saw the gap and decided to try and build the professional version of this industry, not just another supplier in it.
It hasn't been a straight line. Firewood is seasonal, and the low season between January and June has tested us more than once, forcing hard decisions on cash and crew. The lesson that's stuck with us: don't force outcomes against the season, work with it. That thinking now shapes how we plan production, stockpile ahead of demand, and structure our operation to survive the quiet months rather than fight them.
We're still building. But the goal hasn't changed since day one: establish Oribib as a premium, professional firewood brand out of Namibia, one that sets the standard on quality and consistency rather than competing on price alone. Long term, that means more farms, real specifications, and eventually the chance for other producers to grow alongside us rather than around us. If we get that right, it's not just a business we build, it's an industry, and that means jobs and opportunity for the communities we're part of.
Two things most suppliers in this market don't bother with: we moisture-test every batch before it ships, and we harvest sustainably. Neither is required. Both are the standard we've chosen to hold ourselves to, because a premium brand has to mean something.
To professionalise Namibia's firewood industry, one relationship at a time, by holding ourselves to standards most local suppliers don't: moisture-tested Mopane hardwood, sustainably harvested, supplied consistently to buyers who value reliability over the lowest price.
A Namibia known for premium, branded firewood, with Oribib as the standard-bearer. Multiple farms, a professionalised supply chain, and room for other producers to grow alongside us, because building the industry creates more value than owning all of it.
